Of all the Fedor is a free agent stories that I have read, the Fighting Life’s is my favorite. I think I’ve had the “I need space” talk with a few men in my past…
MMA Junkie is reporting that Cain Velasquez, the former Arizona State heavyweight, will fight at UFC 83. Cain was one of my favorite heavyweights, mostly because he was more mobile and exciting to watch than Mocco and Konrad. That mobility will be quite an asset in the Octagon.
The Boston Herald has an interview with Dana White - it’s your basic “I’m not worried about anyone hurting the UFC” deal. As we can always count on with Dana, it is entertaining.
Finally, the NCAA Wrestling D-I Championships are in less than two weeks, so it’s time for wrestling fans to prepare. If you are heading to St. Louis, like I am, here is a handy guide to restaurants, bars, and attractions. For those of you not making the trip, I highly recommend signing up with the Wrestling Talk forum. The discussion is smart (usually), and members post results faster than most of the “real time updates” you find on the Web. However, during peak traffic times, the forum will be limited to members only, so if you want to enjoy the benefits, sign up now!

I’ll admit it - I love musicals. I’m a sucker for people breaking out into song and dance in the middle of the street. I love the Sound of Music, and yeah, My Favorite Things is one of my favorite songs. But instead of singing about bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, I will write about my favorite things from the world of wrestling and MMA. Continue Reading »

First, let me get this out of the way - the BCS sucks. Sucks. Sucks. Sucks. This is not something that is open to discussion with me - the BCS sucks.
Anyway, what a weekend for college wrestling! Minnesota vs. Iowa State, Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma, the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite… Something that I love about college wrestling is that the top teams wrestle consistently wrestle each other. One versus two happens pretty much every season, and how often do we see that in college football or men’s basketball? (Of course, last week, we got to see #4 beat #2, but for some reason, the #4 who beat the #2 is not in a BCS game, but the #2 who lost is. I digress.)
First, Minnesota/Iowa State at Minny. Continue Reading »

A few wrestling sites have released their rankings, and here is a quick rundown of them all:
- Amateur Wrestling News has released their individual rankings. No team ones as of yet.
- Wrestling Talk has also released their rankings. Wrestling Talk is an online forum of about 150 wrestling fans, and each member has a vote. Votes are weighted by the experience of the poster. Though the rankings are a little Minnesota heavy - Mack Reiter over Coleman Scott and Tyler McCormick, for example - I think that they are overall a pretty good indicator of wrestling’s best. You can have some influence over these rankings if you join the forum. It’s a great forum-a nice alternative to the flame-heavy forums at The Mat.com- and some people who truly know wrestling post on the site. Check it out.
Intermat and W.I.N have yet to release their rankings, and Rev Wrestling says that they will be out October 8.
