A few links for your Sunday evening, or your Monday morning, as the case may be:
There are a bunch of fun new videos at Flo Wrestling, but my favorite one is the tour that Brian Smith gives of the Mizzou Sports Park. Some fun things to note on that video: look
for a cameo by Pig Brown, the recently injured defensive captain of the #7 Missouri football team, the close proximity of the football stadium, Hearnes Center (where wrestling lives) and the training facilities, and the fact that the wrestling room, office and weight room are on the fourth floor. One of my favorite things about wrestling being on the fourth floor is that the wrestlers are not allowed to take the elevator - they have to take the stairs. Take a look for yourself at my alma mater!
I recently learned that the MMA Junkie is also a Missouri Tiger, and MMA Junkie is expanding its presence at Yahoo Sports. Congrats, Dann!
The NWCA All-Star line-up is set, and since we’re talking Tigers, my wrestler to watch, Tyler McCormick is one of the All-Stars who will take the mat. Here is the rest of the line-up:
125: Paul Donahoe (Nebraska) vs. Jayson Ness (Minnesota)
133: Tyler McCormick (Missouri) vs. Coleman Scott (Oklahoma State)
141: Charles Griffin (Hofstra) vs. Nathan Morgan (Oklahoma State)
149: Dustin Schlatter (Minnesota) vs. Josh Churella (Michigan)
157: Craig Henning (Wisconsin) vs. Mike Poeta (Illinois)
165: Eric Tannenbaum (Michigan) vs. TBA
174: Keith Gavin (Pittsburgh) vs. Matt Stolpinski (Navy)
184: Jake Varner (Iowa State) vs. Roger Kish (Minnesota)
197: Phil Davis (Penn State) vs. Mike Tamillow (Northwestern)
285: Tervel Dlagnev (Nebraska-Kearney) vs. Dustin Fox (Northwestern)
I am very excited about a few of these match-ups: Dlagnev/Fox and Griffin/Morgan. But the intraconference match-ups annoy me. I am happy as can be that Tyler was invited, but these two will already see each other during the season - couldn’t Jimmy Kennedy be invited? Mack Reiter? Same with Davis-Tamillow - did Josh Glenn decline? Max Askren? Wynn Michalek? I know some wonderful people at the NWCA, and I know they work hard to put on great events, so I doubt that they weren’t more imaginative in their invitations. I wonder if the coaches are letting their athletes attend.
