Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson are having a baby sponsored by Mickey’s

Published by chitownchick under tito ortiz Edit This

Two interesting pieces of news hit yesterday. First, Jenna Jameson and Tito Ortiz are having a baby . I have so many questions. What color hair will this child actually have? Will Tito get up in the middle of the night to feed the baby? Will Jenna’s frighteningly skinny arms be able to hold a baby? Does this child have any shot whatsoever at being normal? (I think we already know the answer to that one.)

The second piece of news is that Ortiz signed a sponsorship with Mickey’s . Nothing quite says the miracle of life like malt liquor. At least we can be certain on one thing — the child’s name!

EliteXC to stage another circus

Published by chitownchick under Uncategorized Edit This

Dave Meltzer from Yahoo is reporting that Kimbo Slice is going to fight Ken Shamrock in the October 4 Elite XC event that will air on CBS . Ken Shamrock, who is 44 years old, and has lost his last five fights. All five fights ended in the first round. In addition to being old as dirt, Shamrock is also a pioneer in MMA and a huge draw. I had read that the future of EliteXC hinged on this next fight, and clearly they are all pulling out all the stops.  Hmmm, you’ve got the bearded lady and the man older than Methuselah, what’s next? Clowns?

Oh. We’re all set then.

As for Slice, he gets a chance at what some will perceive as a real opponent. A “real” opponent who hasn’t been relevant since the early part of the decade, but he was great. This is Slice and EliteXC’s chance to prove their legitimacy. They also need to prove to CBS that their little MMA experiment was worth it, as this is the second-to-last show on their contract.

I’m back! Hey my brother, can I borrow a copy of your Hey Soul classics?

Published by chitownchick under Uncategorized Edit This

I haven’t forgotten about MMA, I promise. I have written plenty about wrestling in the past few weeks, just not here. I have spent a lot of time over at Yahoo! Sports Blogs’ Fourth-Place Medal , writing about every aspect of the Olympics. Basically, I was completely immersed in the Olympics, and have been unable to write (or talk!) about anything else.

But those sixteen days of Olympic madness are over, so I will be back to nurture my baby, Chicks Heart Fights. Though MMA went into a bit of a lull, presumably to accommodate the Olympics, it will kick into high gear for the month of September. UFC, UFN, WEC, oh my!

To keep you going, here are a few of the stories I have been able to read about MMA in the past month.

- Edwin Dewees was suspended for doping after the last EliteXC event . Silly Edwin Dewees.

- Although the September 20 EliteXC event was canceled, EliteXC assures us - ALL IS WELL. REMAIN CALM. ALL IS WELLLLLLLLLLLL!

- Affliction: Day of Reckoning has been scheduled for October 11 , but more importantly, Ozzy Osbourne will perform there.

- Frank Trigg and Tangori won at a Sengoku event last night. I’m going to have some news of an upcoming Sengoku event soon.

- Cheick Kongo is not concerned about Brock Lesnar .

Olympic First Day Round-Up

Published by chitownchick under Olympics Edit This

Wrestling finally began in the Olympics — yay — with the 55 kg and 60 kg in Greco-Roman. The U.S. did not qualify a wrestler at 60 kg so Spenser Mango was our only wrestler to watch. Mango won his first match against Romania’s Virgil Munteanu, but lost to South Korea’s Eun-chul Park. In the follow the leader format, Mango needed Park to win, and he didn’t. He lost to Russia’s Nazyr Mankiev, who went onto win the gold over Rovshan Bayramov from Azerbaijan. Mango is young and hopefully will use this experience to continue to grow as a wrestler.

Jeff Curran to Cut Down to 135

Published by chitownchick under Uncategorized Edit This

Today, I took a break from my Olympic frenzy to go to the opening of the Curran Mixed Martial Arts in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Jeff Curran, king of Team Curran, announced that he will be cutting down to 135 for his next fights, and Team Curran member Bart Palaszewski has signed a six-fight contract with the WEC.  He then invited us into the beautiful facility that features an octagon, a ring, a wrestling room and a muay thai room. Ultimate Fighter Amir Sadollah stopped by, and he and Curran put on a grappling demonstration. Overtime Wrestling will be running another branch of their wrestling academy out of this location. DH will have pics soon, and I will link to them when available. If you’re looking for an MMA place in the Chicago area, check it out. It’s a great spot.

Random Thoughts During UFC 87

First off, Comcast is not my friend. The feed was screwed up for the first fight, and so I missed it. If the feed would not have been back in time for the Huerta/Florian fight, it would not have been pretty. Actually, maybe it would have been better if I didn’t see it.

Roger never really seemed to find his groove during the fight. He just didn’t look like the energetic fighter that I’m used to. He was pushing the pace a bit in the second, but he was not impressive. Ken-Flo looked great, and he deserved the win.

Manny vs. Rob ended quickly with a beautiful right by Rob Emerson, and Manny was out like the Comcast feed earlier tonight. Emerson’s hat is ugly. Emerson’s hat always make him look 12. Emerson is gracious in winning.

It’s been a weird collection of entrance music tonight. Outside of Huerta’s El Matador, it’s been pretty bad. Dan Evensen’s is just bizarre.

Joe Rogan calls the UFC more cool than the Olympics. I STRONGLY disagree Joe.

Cheick Kongo has one of the top 5 bodies in the UFC. He kicked some booty tonight.

I wonder who would win in Trivial Pursuit between Brock Lesnar and Heath Herring?

From working NCAA’s, I’ve walked behind Brock Lesnar, and he is one of the most massive human beings that I’ve ever been around. He’s like a damn Mack Truck. I think if I ran my Hyundai into him, my car would catch the brunt of the damage.

Heath Herring will need to explain to me how a long leather jacket is a cowboy fashion.

Brock Lesnar seems to be having a blast in the UFC. I like to watch a fighter who truly enjoys fighting. Lesnar doesn’t need the money, so he’s doing it because he likes it.

Who has the better accent, GSP or Michael Bisping?

GSP was just plain old dominant, but I did not like BJ coming in at the end. That took away GSP’s moment. Of course he’ll fight you, BJ. He’s a professional.

UFC 87: Holy Hotness, Batman!

Hot fights. Hot men. Hot month. There is no other way to describe UFC 87 than hot. I’ve been elbow-deep in the Olympics, yet I still can’t escape the heat permeating from Minneapolis, Minn. for this weekend’s event.  HOT.

Let’s get out the cold compresses and dive in:

Champ Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch (for welterweight title)

GSP has looked unstoppable in his last three fights. Jon Fitch has been the next big thing for a while now, but considering how top-heavy welterweight is, this is his biggest test. Unfortunately, it’s a test he will fail. GSP’s ground game and vicious kicks will win out.

Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring

Brock Lesnar is quite skilled at picking things up quickly. His first fight with Mir made the kind of mistakes that only a beginner would make. (Or a dumb veteran.) Even though Herring won over Cheick Kongo, I’m still not impressed. I think this will be Lesnar’s first win in the UFC.

Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta

Speaking of hotness - I need to crank the AC up for this one. This has the potential for fight of the year. Both fighters go nonstop, and are technically sound. The match-up is about as perfect as it gets. I have to pick my man Roger, because, well, he’s Roger. A gal’s gotta follow her heart.

Rob Emerson vs. Manny Gamburyan

Jason MacDonald vs. Demian Maia

Luke Cummo vs. Tamdan McCrory

Dan Evensen vs. Cheick Kongo

Jon Jones vs. Andre Gusmao

Steve Bruno vs. Chris Wilson

Ben Saunders vs. Ryan Thomas
