TUF: Forrest vs. Rampage, Episode 5

April 30th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Hello everyone! It’s Wednesday night, so that means it’s TUF time! I will try to muddle through this episode the best that I can, though I must say, my computer has been on the wonky side since I did my crazy liveblogging of the draft. Come on computer! You can do it!

Previously, on the Ultimate Fighter: Riddle talks a lot of smack, but then loses a great fight to Tim Credeur. Two wins for Team Forrest.

In a recap of last week’s fight, Riddle started strong, was winning the second round, but then made the mistake of a taking a jiu-jitsu expert to the ground. Credeur thinks he is a better fighter because of the fight, and goes to Riddle’s room after the fight to say that. He also says that he will buy Riddle an Xbox 360. Then, in the van on the way back to the house after the fight, Jeremy May knocks Riddle for not winning the fight. He sure seems like a d-bag, but then says he misses having sex 2-3 times a day, and that he just might break his girlfriend’s back when he goes home. Yep, he’s a d-bag. And gentlemen, just a little tip for you - it is known among women that those who talk the talk usually can’t walk the walk. It’s clear that he is not well-liked in the house.

Rampage is not pleased about being 0-2. He brings in Michael Bisping to push the guys. Bisping tells us a whole lot of stuff, but the accent, and the pretty blue eyes, make it hard for me to understand him. Something about changing your life forever. Bisping puts a whoopin’ on Team Rampage. Jeremy thinks he is going to get picked, and I hope so, because the boy needs to get knocked on his ass. He tells Riddle that no one on Team Forrest can stand up with him.

During Team Forrest’s session, the team is sparring. Matt Brown is cautioned to not hurt anyone. He seems like a nice guy who can also beat the crap out of you.

At the house, May is up to tricks again. He puts lime juice in Brown’s dip. I don’t understand why. Brown gets pissed: “You don’t mess with another man’s dip.” I couldn’t agree more. While yelling at May, Brown says that May is the next fight, and that he better get ready. May backpedals and says that he didn’t want to hurt him. This doesn’t seem to matter to Brown; he looks sort of ready to kill someone. I’m a little scared.

Is the fight announcement necessary? Dana is not there, and the fight is actually Dante Rivera (Forrest) against Brandon Sene (Rampage). Rampage just wants to get a win so bad so that he can control the team’s destiny. Brandon is definitely a good striker. He was a sniper for the Marines. (Wow. I don’t know if that’s hot or frightening.) With Dante, he has been in the fight game for a while. His strength is jiu-jitsu and should take this fight to the ground to win. This is also a battle of experience vs. youth. Dante is very well conditioned, so his youth may not hurt him as much as it might hurt Sene. A lack of experience is definitely what cost Riddle the fight last week, so it would be interesting to see that happen again.

Trash talk guessing game: I’m definitely the underdog. All I can do is show them that they are wrong… I’m looking to push the pace… I want to take the guy down and submit him.. I hope you bring your A game because I’m definitely bringing mine.

Mazzagatti and his mustache are reffing this match. Dante immediately goes in and throws a knee and punch and takes Sene to the cage. Dante tries to bring it down to the ground, and makes it happen with underhooks and a nice trip. Dante gets side control and tries for a guillotine. Sene pops out of the guillotine, and they stand. They go back to clinching at the cage, and Dante tries a trip but it doesn’t work. The guys are so loud that I don’t see how the fighters are hearing instructions. Dante shoots in for a single leg but lets it go, moves to underhook, and takes Sene down. Dante tries for a knee bar but Sene gets out right before the end of the first period. Both coaches tell their fighters that they won that round.

To start the next round, the ring girl is holding the round number crookedly. Seriously - you have one job! The guys are more tentative at the beginning of this round. A few punches are thrown, and then Dante drive Sene into the fence. Sene is doing a good job of listening to his corner - landing some tough kicks and punches. Sene is taken down, and lands some suspect punches near the back of Dante’s head. Dante moves to side control, but after some ground work, they’re back on their feet. Dante puts everything he can in bringing Sene down, and finally does it. Dante is on top, though I don’t understand what he is trying to do. Sene pushes on top of Dante, and throws a lot of elbows. The round is over, but I don’t think this fight is over.

I was right - round three! They clinch up for more than a minute to start out the round. Mazzagatti finally breaks them up and moves them to the center. After clinching again, Dante gets a nice takedown. Not much damage is being inflicted by either side. Considering how good the other two rounds were, this one is a snoozefest. Again, both fighters are told that they have won. Dante Rivera is named the winner. He was more dominant, but not really impressive, as Dana said. Rampage is pissed because he said that Dante stalled the whole time, so he breaks stuff. He says: I used to go to anger management classes, but they just made me angry. CB, Rampage, and Juanito try to comfort Brandon, but considering the guys live together, I have a feeling that this won’t be the end of it.

Right at the end of the show, we go into fight picks, and we have Matt Brown vs. Jeremy May. AWESOME. They have the most awkward staredown, ever. Jeremy tries to make jokes, but Brown is not breaking his gaze. Very odd. Forrest reiterates that you don’t mess with a man’s dip - specifically a Southern man’s dip.

On the next episode of the Ultimate Fighter: the grudge match is on, and Jeremy May is all about the head games. Ooh - and there are two fights next week! Yay!
